The Little Dog Laughed // {Play Briefing} {Qld Theatre Co}

A short while ago, I attended my first play briefing which was about Queensland Theatre Company's first season of the year - The Little Dog Laughed. While this entry is not a review about the show (you can read one of the reviews in 612 ABC Brisbane here) it is moreso about what I have learned during the play briefing.
The Little Dog Laughed was Simone Romaniuk's first stage design debut and she has some previous involvement with some of Queensland Theatre Company's educational programs. The process in the beginning was to look at the theme and making a decision to set the play in a certain way that allowed for quick setting changes that was required by The Little Dog Laughed. There was a model box of the set (complete with the lighting set!) so that we can have a peek as to what we can expect during the play. Lighting was also discussed in recreating the filmic themes and to make it heavier than usual. Tony Brumpton, the sound designer, also gave us a run down of the audio elements to expect and they had a vocal coach which gave a brief workshop on how to adopt American accents.
Kat Henry had some sort of involvement with the play and she was a graduate of NIDA's Directors course - check out Stella Electrika which is a performance company and a product of this NIDA graduate!
One of the best things that I have gotten out of attending the play briefing is that with all the time that I have spent adding entries about various AFTRS workshops on directing, or the Ellaways workshops on music/sound and so on I was able to conceptualise what is possible.
RE The Little Dog Laughed: I very much recommend that you see it. Especially with your Best Gay Friend.
NB: BCI would like to thank Qld Theatre Company for providing a free double pass last month! The winner was Flloyd Kennedy of bitsFestival/various other creative enterpises/projects.

And tonight's the night I am going to see it. Looking forward to it immensely, especially after reading reviews of the original off-Broadway, and Broadway productions.
Thanks Flloyd - let us know what you think of it!
