Public Sphere #3: Australian ICT & Creative Industries Development
Friday, August 28, 2009 at 11:11PM It is great to see the power of social media and online networks pulling down the barriers in knowledge and information. Events are transient things but the tools that we have today - live Twitter feeds, podcasts, mobile phone cameras, YouTube - make it possible to experience it at a certain level even if you are not there.
One such event was Public Sphere Australian ICT & Creative Industries Development. While discussions where held in Wollongong University Innovation Campus, remote 'nodes' where set up in Brisbane (University of Queensland) and Melbourne (Trinity College). I must admit that when I bought a virtual ticket to these nodes, I didn't actually realise that there were physical locations being set up until a day or two before this event!
There's a lot of snippets of commentary on the right hand side application of this live feed throughout the day.

Judith Benneth from the UTS Creative Industries Innovation Centre (part of Enterprise Connect) talks about setting the scene in Australia. We (AIMIA Qld, not BCI) are coordinating an event with the Qld Enterprise Connect in September 17.

Senator Kate Lundy, please bring the next portion or the sequel to this in Brisbane. I look forward to seeing more of the Brisbane creative industries community being more engaged in a discussion of this sort. I have just interviewed a Brisbane-based furniture designer tonight and her sentiments about the community here is similar to mine and other people that I have talked to in that Brisbane is fairly collaborative...for example, I ran into someone who was the Producer of Brisbane Powerhouse (multi-arts venue) and talking to him about mobile technologies and performances...it is all very exciting..

I admit to be a very visual person...phew, thank god for slides and youtubes...
Hi Hannah,
Wow, thanks for the write up! The Public Spheres are a pretty new and exciting project, and we're glad many people agree :) The Brisbane node was excellent, and I agree Brisbane is a great idea for a future Public Sphere. It doesn't need to be us though, we've already got Penny Sharpe MLC running her own Public Sphere event based on our model (next week in fact) in Sydney, and we would hope many politicians and government agencies start using the model. We'll be continuing to experiment with it (this was the first one with multiple nodes for instance) and we'd like to hear other feedback and suggestions. Retweeting your post now :)
Also, Kate is speaking in Brisbane at a NICTA Big Picture Seminar in Sept/Oct, so come along and say hi :)
Cheers,
Pia Waugh

Hi. Thanks for sharing the view from Brisbance. It was great to have you involved.
PS Can you fix the typo above... its "Wollongong" not Woolongong? :-)
Oh no! I did the same thing! Sorry Brisbane!
Pia:
Thanks for that, I've just subscribed myself to the NICTA email list so that I can find out about when/where this is.
James:
No worries! I'll leave your comment up but I've just modified the blog post to the correct spelling "Wollongong"
Nice one..
I would really appreciate this video review and I got a lot of information which will be helpful to run my IT Outsourcing company.
